Welcome Back!

September 1, 2021

Good Morning CTS Families

It’s almost time! We are excited to welcome everyone back to school. I know there has been a great deal of information in the last few weeks about school and how it might look this fall, and you have questions about what the school experience will be like for your child this year. Hopefully many of your questions will be answered by this letter.

We will be offering full in-class instruction, with covid health and safety protocols in place, as outlined by our district Health and Safety Team. These will include such things as continuing with daily health checks, staying home when ill (for any absences from school please call the attendance line at 250-361-3706 or email cloverdalesafearrival@sd61.bc.ca), continuing hand hygiene, sanitizing the building, wearing of masks at all times for all students in grade four and up, as well as all adults in our building, and, managing numbers in all areas of our school, as we will work to reduce unintentional contact. All persons who enter our building will be required to sign in.

A few reminders for the first few days of full in-class instruction for students in grades one through five (kindergarten families, please follow the instructions you received June 28).

September 7th, 2021, students are in session from 9:00am-11:30am. Please bring a recess snack. We ask that you do not bring your school supplies on the first day. When the bell rings at 9:00am, students will line up outside at their same spot as last school year. New students will meet at the front of the school. Teachers will greet students outside and bring them inside. At 11:30 am, students will be dismissed and parents can meet children outside at the same point as drop off.

September 8th, 2021, is a full day of school. Please ensure your student has a lunch, a recess snack,  and a pencil. Students will not need all of their school supplies until they are in their new classes. Our regular school day will be 8:53am-2:35pm.

We do not know which day we will be given the green light to move to new classes, but we will attempt to send an email the evening before, once we do. Please look for a rolling bulletin board with new class lists on the basketball court. Support staff will be on hand to help students find the correct line for their new class. Please be reminded these new classes are tentative and can change over the coming weeks, due to changes in enrolment. Please send school supplies this day.

Parking will be at a premium. Please do not park in the staff lot or the Thrifty Foods parking lot. There are only a few spots on Linwood. Please consider biking, walking or parking a short distance away from the school and walking.

Pack In/Pack Out

As part of the overall health and safety plans for schools, we will be asking students and staff to take home all items they have brought with them to school for lunch or snack. This includes garbage and compost.

Please make sure your child is able to independently open all food containers and packages that are sent to school.

Hand Sanitizer

Should you choose to send this with your child, it must be kept for personal use (in a backpack), not shared and should be scent free please.

School Supplies

All student school supplies should be individually labelled with your child’s name. The supply lists are on our school website.  See the lists here:  https://cloverdale.sd61.bc.ca/parent-info/school-supplies/

Indoor Shoes

We appreciate it if you are able to send a pair of clean shoes to stay at school for use during the day. They need not be new, but should have non-marking soles, be clean and correctly fitting. This helps our custodians keep our building clean, especially when the weather turns, and protects our gym floor.

We are truly looking forward to our year together and know with everyone working together as a team, we can make this a great learning experience. I know that there has been a lot of information to process. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to getting to seeing everyone in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

Sue Ottenbreit   and   Barb Sapsford
