SCHOOL UPDATES:

Principal’s Message

November has brought shorter days, rain, wind and cooler temperatures. Students will continue enjoying outdoor recess and lunch time play opportunities. Please ensure that your child has a warm, waterproof jacket and boots. Spending more time indoors also raises concerns over the transmission of flu and colds. Frequent hand washing, and teaching of proper coughing and sneezing practices continue to be emphasized at Cloverdale. Thank you for your support by keeping your child home if they are sick where they can rest and recover most quickly. We also appreciate the phone calls and emails from parents informing us of their child’s absence. It’s not only an important part of student safety; it’s also helpful to us in managing the spread of illness in the school. Please note the attached head lice awareness note. It is the time of year when we start seeing more cases of head lice as children share hats, clothing, etc.  https://cloverdale.sd61.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/63/2026/11/Head-Lice-Awareness.pdf

Cloverdale continues to be an outstanding place for students to do their learning because of the many partnerships we enjoy. Parents, relatives, community members and groups support the great work being done at Cloverdale in so many ways. It is my privilege and pleasure to work with such an amazing community of people. Thank you!

Coat Swap – As the weather gets colder we are accepting donations of clean coats and jackets. Please bring them to the office or hang them directly on the clothing rack. If you need a coat or jacket, please help yourself from the rack. We all know how quickly children grow and this allows us to swap and exchange in the spirit of supporting one another during this time of growing inflation. We have set the rack up outside the main gym doors.

Poppy Donations-  On Wednesday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. we will recognize Remembrance Day with a full school assembly.  All students will be provided with a poppy.  We ask that you consider sending a small cash donation to school with your child for the Poppy Fund.  All money collected will be donated to the Poppy Fund via the Royal Canadian Legion.  Parents and family members are welcome to join our assembly if they wish.  If your child is interested in participating in the colour guard (Indigenous students, scouts, brownies, cubs, girl guides, cadets) they will need to bring their uniform/regalia for the assembly.  Please let your child’s classroom teacher know if they will participate.

Thank you to everyone who attended the PAC Halloween dance! A special thank you to everyone who baked, volunteered, and to DJ Nigel for making this event possible!

This week was the deadline for the Created by Kids art fundraiser, thank you to all of you who placed orders. Orders will be delivered to classrooms at the end of November.

Open Gym Night is coming up on Wednesday, November 18th from 5:30-7PM. Please join us in your clean, non-marking shoes to enjoy free play in the gym. Parent supervision is required.

Winter Concert Tickets

On Friday, November 13 all students will bring home a winter concert letter and ticket request form.  Please note that all tickets are issued on a first come first served basis, and that our Thursday evening show always sells out.  We are usually unable to issue any extra tickets for the evening performance.  It is also important for parents to remember that our gym capacity is for bodies, not chairs.  This means that all small children and babies that will sit in parents laps DO require a ticket to attend the show.  Anyone who comes to the the shows MUST have a ticket or they will not be admitted into the gym.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding tickets, please contact the school office at 250-382-7231.

DISTRICT & COMMUNITY UPDATES:

1000 x 5

3 book challenge.  Three books =  a holiday book bag.  “I have a 5 month old and would love to have more books for him as I don’t have a lot of money to buy them.  I really appreciate what 1000×5 is doing.  I love reading to my son and am so glad to have a variety of books instead of reading the same two over and over.”  Give now!  Drop your 3+ books for babies and preschoolers in the pink bin at your school office.
