December
From the LLC…
Wow…It has been a busy and incredibly creative few months in our Library Learning Commons over the past few months. From Camp Read, designing and creating treehouses, Winter Stem challenges, Keva plank challenges (bridges and tallest towers), Scholastic Book Fairs and a few contests along the way, we have been busy. I am enjoying the students and their passion and love for reading and creating. It is so wonderful and enriching for everyone.
Congratulations to the winners of the villain contest at the end of October; Eshaal, Lupita, Lucas, Cortlan, Sophie, and Cosette. Way to go!
Wanted: local celebrities and Community helpers
Mrs. Hutchinson is looking for volunteers to rotate around to the classes and read a story or two on January 25th and 27th for Family Literacy Day. Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups across the country have taken part in the initiative. If you are or know any retired or current firefighters, police officers, the Mayor, Royals hockey players, musicians, or any other community superstars that are willing to come in and read, please email Mhutchinson@sd61.bc.ca.
Starting in January, I will be hosting an Eras Swifty club On Wednesdays at lunch. We will be starting with the grade 5 era for the first few weeks and then moving to the grade 4’s, 3’s, 2’s, 1’s. If you have any extra beads, elastic, and letter beads that are sitting around the house, donations are always welcome. Stay tuned for the start up…
Wishing you a relaxing and wonderful holiday season
Mrs. Hutchinson
