Principal’s Message
Happy Friday everyone! We hope you are looking forward to a wonderful weekend. The sun is setting earlier these days, but we have mostly been pretty lucky to enjoy some warmer weather. Please remember reflective clothing if you are biking/walking to school.
Thank you to families who joined us last week at the Meet the Teacher event.
Our various extra-curricular activities are slowly starting up. We will host cross country to start the year. Remind your students to listen for announcements. Thank you to the adults in our building who volunteer their time for these pursuits.
I’d like to thank the dedicated Cloverdale staff for their hard work over the past few weeks in ensuring that students enjoyed a smooth start to this school year. I would also like to thank the students for their cooperation and commitment to learning through this time. Finally, I would like to thank parents for their continued support, involvement and patience as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for each and every student. I know we are all looking forward to another terrific year of learning together here at Cloverdale Elementary.
A few reminders from the district regarding policy and procedure:
Anaphylaxis policy 5141.21: The purpose of this policy is to minimize the risk to students with severe allergies to potentially life-threatening allergens without depriving the severely allergic student of normal peer interactions or placing unreasonable restrictions on the activities of other students in the school.
Complaint Process for Resolution of Concerns, regulation 1155, ensures that any individual’s concern will be given respectful attention while upholding the integrity of the educational system.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Cloverdale Elementary this year from Monday, October 5 to Thursday, October 8th. We will be selling books and merchandise in the library each day after school until 3:30. Our new Teacher Librarian, Tricia Byer, would love to have some parent volunteers to help set up and to help run the event. Please e-mail her if you are interested at tbyer@sd61.bc.ca.
Thank you to everyone who purchased school supplies through the Monk Office fundraiser. PAC was able to raise over $300 through your participation.
Want to watch a soccer game? Join PAC on Sunday, October 11th at 4PM at Royal Athletic Park to see the Pacific FC! Tickets are discounted, and $5 of each ticket will go to the PAC.

Fun Lunch Orders Due Today
A reminder that all fun lunch orders for term 1 are due back no later than 2:30 p.m. today. No late orders will be accepted.
School Spirit Wear Store
Our school spirit wear store closes on Sunday, September 27 at midnight. No late orders will be accepted. This is the only chance this school year to order your spirit wear. We will not run a school store again until next September.
Terry Fox Run Monday
A reminder that we will be running for Terry Fox Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Please come watch and cheer us on. We are also still collecting Toonies for Terry if you would like to send a small donation with your student.
Orange Shirt Day
We will be having our Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, September 29 as we will not be in attendance on September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage all children and staff to wear their orange shirts this day.
Fall Conferences
We will be hosting our annual Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7. An email was sent home with more details and the link to book. Missed the email? All info is on the front page of our website.
DISTRICT & COMMUNITY UPDATES:
Kids Fest 2026
This free event takes place in the gymnasium of Fernwood Community Centre, on October 17, from 12:30-3:30 on October 17. Eleven children’s book authors will have tables set up, leading children through crafts and activities related to their books. There will be passports for children to collect signatures, snacks, face painting and prizes. The Greater Victoria Public Library will be present to sign children up for library cards. Local Elder Sky Bellefleur will be in a cozy nook, storytelling with puppets. You can find more details at victoriafestivalofauthors.ca/kidsfest2026
