SCHOOL UPDATES:

Principal’s Message

Happy Friday everyone! We hope you are looking forward to a wonderful weekend. The sun is setting earlier these days, but we have mostly been pretty lucky to enjoy some warmer weather.

Thank you to families who joined us last week at the Meet the Teacher event.

The Cloverdale PAC held their first meeting of the year this week, and are looking forward to meeting all the new parents, as well as encouraging all parents to participate with them; on the executive, at their meetings, helping with events, etc.

Our various extra-curricular activities are slowly starting up. We will host cross country and soccer to start the year. Remind your students to listen for announcements. Thank you to the adults in our building who volunteer their time for these pursuits.

I’d like to thank the dedicated Cloverdale staff for their hard work over the past few weeks in ensuring that students enjoyed a smooth start to this school year. I would also like to thank the students for their cooperation and commitment to learning through this time. Finally, I would like to thank parents for their continued support, involvement and patience as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for each and every student. I know we are all looking forward to another terrific year of learning together here at Cloverdale Elementary.

A few reminders from the district regarding policy and procedure:

Anaphylaxis policy 5141.21: The purpose of this policy is to minimize the risk to students with severe allergies to potentially life-threatening allergens without depriving the severely allergic student of normal peer interactions or placing unreasonable restrictions on the activities of other students in the school.

Complaint Process for Resolution of Concerns, regulation 1155, ensures that any individual’s concern will be given respectful attention while upholding the integrity of the educational system.

Please review these on the district website.

Terry Fox Run & Donations

On Friday, September 26 at 1:30 p.m. our whole school will participate in our annual Terry Fox run.  In the spirit of giving back and honouring Terry Fox we are collecting “Toonies for Terry”.  Please consider sending your student with a donation to add to our school collection.  Suggested donation is $2 but every little bit helps, no donation is too small!  We will be collecting all next week and will announce our fundraising total in an upcoming newsletter.  Thank you in advance for supporting our fundraising efforts.  Donations are not a requirement to participate.  Prefer to donate online?   You can do so here.

Does Your Child Walk Home?

If your child walks home from school, and likes to stay and play on the school grounds before heading off the school grounds, the office needs written permission for your child to walk home.  When children leave to walk home right at the dismissal bell, it is always a good idea for the teacher to be aware, but no written permission is required.  For children that stay and play for a while first, our after school supervision staff have assumed responsibility for them and are not able to allow them to leave on their own without permission.  If your child has permission to walk home and often stays on the school grounds for a bit of time first, please send a quick email to the office (cloverdale@sd61.bc.ca).  A reminder that supervision on the school grounds is for 15 minutes after the bell only.

School Spirit Wear

Our online school store to purchase Cloverdale Spirit Wear is now open!  Emails went home last week with detailed info.  Lost the link for the store?  Access it here.  You still have time!  Deadline to submit orders is Sunday, September 28 at midnight.  Note that late orders cannot be accepted.  We only offer spirit wear once per school year.  Don’t miss out!

Fun Lunch Orders Due Tuesday

A reminder that Fun Lunch orders for October-January are due back on Tuesday by 2:30 p.m.  No late orders will be accepted.  Fun Lunch ordering information for February – June will be sent home in January.

Orange Shirt Day at Cloverdale

Since we will not be in session on September 30, we will be participating in a school wide orange shirt day on Monday, September 29.  Please consider sending your child to school in an orange shirt this day to recognize and raise awareness about the history and legacies of the residential school system in Canada.
