SCHOOL UPDATES:

Principal’s Message

It’s hard to believe that we are well into May! We welcome the spring weather as our ‘gardeners’ are busy preparing and working on our gardens. Many children get involved with lunchtime weeding, watering and general enjoyment of our gardens, with the help of a few dedicated teachers.

Students continue to be very active on the playground. Skipping, four square, basketball, and soccer are favorite recess and lunch activities. The skill and fun our students are demonstrating is indeed contributing to healthy living at Cloverdale School. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate footwear to play safely on our playground, fields and courts during these times. ‘Flip flops’ and/or bare feet are very hazardous on the school fields and blacktop.

SD61 celebrates Rainbow Week on May 11-15. At Cloverdale, we honour diversity, and welcome all, to our caring and inclusive community. Our focus is multi-facetted, including family diversity, gender expression, non-conformity and uniqueness. The rainbow is a symbol of hope for a better future. Cloverdale Elementary will celebrate Rainbow Week June 1–5. Activities might include: reading, inviting students to highlight their uniqueness by dressing in their favourite colours, art projects, and the distribution of rainbow stickers. Rainbow week is a time for us to recognize and celebrate our differences.

We are asking for your help in improving school attendance. We have recently experienced a great deal of students arriving much later than the entry bell. This makes our attendance difficult, and results in interrupted learning blocks, as students move into classes that have already begun their morning routines.

Have a super long weekend.

Skipathon

On Tuesday, May 19 our annual Skipathon pledge sheets will come home.  A reminder to families that we do not ask children to canvas neighbourhoods or approach strangers for sponsors.  All students will participate in the Skipathon, even if they choose not to raise any pledges.  Thank you for your support with this fundraiser.  We also welcome parents to come to the Skipathon event and cheer us on with our skipping on Friday, May 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Welcome to Kindergarten

We are excited to host our families that have children starting Kindergarten in September, on Thursday May 28 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at our Welcome to Kindergarten Event.  This is a drop in style gathering.  We do ask that only the new Kindergarten child and their parent(s) attend.  Please make arrangements for smaller siblings to stay home.
