SCHOOL UPDATES:
Principal’s Message
Students and staff are all working collaboratively to make this a fabulous term of learning and participation here at Cloverdale. Grade 4 students have taken part in the annual FSAs, and our kindergarten students will take part in the annual hearing screen soon. We have been a polling station for the municipal election and had many folks from the community come to vote this last weekend. We will be open for the provincial polls this Saturday. We have a lockdown drill planned for November 3 with Saanich Police in attendance. Teachers spend time discussing and preparing students for this in an age appropriate manner. Our earthquake drill was very successful, as students discussed ways to keep themselves safe. Friday, October 23, will be a teacher professional development day, with no students in session. Thank you to everyone for calling or emailing the school if your child is going to be absent, and for getting your child to school on time in the morning.
Halloween costumes may be worn to school on October 30. This is an option alongside the orange and black many choose to wear. Please remember students should be able to move freely, be independent for things like bathroom trips, and easily able to participate in all school activities, such as gym, classroom activities and recess times outside. The costumes must be safe, with no dragging pieces or tripping concerns. We ask for no masks, no props and nothing scary or with ‘blood’. We appreciate everyone will consider cultural sensitivity if choosing to wear a costume.
The Halloween dance is coming up on Friday, October 30th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Costumes are welcome (please no costume weapons of any kind). Parent supervision is required. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help out! PAC is looking for a few more folks to volunteer, please see the PAC website or Facebook page for the link!
The Art Project fundraiser will be coming home in your child’s backpack soon. You will be able to purchase your child’s artwork on a number of items including cards, mugs, and many other options. All orders will be delivered to the school at the end of November, making this the perfect option for holiday gifts! 30% of sales will go to the PAC, so we greatly appreciate all support of this fundraiser.
Family Photo Night Fundraiser – A Few Spaces Still Available
We still have time slots available! Act now to avoid missing out. Family photos are a great gift idea, thinking ahead to the upcoming holiday season. Photo sessions are Tuesday, November 10, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the school gym.
This is a fundraiser! 100% of the sitting fee goes directly back to the school, and each family will receive a complimentary 8×10 print.

Family Literacy Event November 5
This free event for families takes place on November 5 from 3:30 – 5:30 in the school for parents to attend alongside their children to share in some literacy stations of simple, fun activities that give families ideas that promote and support literacy at home. Some of our stations will include:
-Flashlight reading
-Board game literacy
-Greater Victoria Public Library story time
-Literacy games
-Free snacks and conversation
-Bookmaking
See the poster here. We hope to see you there!
Coat Swap
As the weather gets colder we will accept donations of clean coats and jackets. Please bring them to the office or hang them directly on the clothing rack. We will have a rack set up in the hallway outside the gym. If you need a coat or jacket, please help yourself from the rack. We all know how quickly children grow and this allows us to swap and exchange in the spirit of supporting one another during this time of growing inflation. We will be setting the rack up outside the main gym doors, and will have access for parents immediately before school in the morning.
