SCHOOL UPDATES:
Principal’s Message
Has our summer weather finally arrived? We are certainly seeing extra outside activities and longer days. With the warmer weather it is important to bring hats and wear sunscreen. We do encourage as much physical, outdoor play during our recess breaks as possible. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate footwear to play safely on our playground, fields and courts. ‘Flip flops’ and ‘Crocs’ can be very hazardous. Please remember that it is more important than ever to help your child stay focused on the learning taking place in the classroom. Continuing with established routines, such as regular meal and bed times is especially helpful to students at this time of year, as we prepare for all the year-end activities to come. As the year winds down, your continued support in ensuring that your children attend school regularly, participate in home reading and come to school prepared for learning, special outings and presentations is greatly appreciated. Your efforts to maintain good communication between home and school, and to support your child’s learning in every way possible, make a huge difference to their success at school.
Today is the PAC year end party on the school field! They have over $700 in raffle prizes to be won – a huge thank you to everyone who helped collect prizes as well as to everyone who will be volunteering at the event. If you have questions you can reach us by e-mail, on our website or on our Facebook page. We hope to see you all there from 5-7PM!
The PAC plans to run the Monk Office School Supply fundraiser over the summer. If you want to purchase school supplies for the fall at once in a bundle, please keep an eye out on the PAC Facebook page and website through the summer to participate!
DISTRICT & COMMUNITY UPDATES:
FIFA World Cup
You may have heard that the City of Victoria is a recipient of $35,000 from the B.C. government’s $1.7-million 2026 Community Event Support Fund to host free public festivities tied to big-screen viewings of the FIFA World Cup games.
Activities in Victoria include viewing parties in Market Square, festivities at Ship Point, and along Government Street at many local restaurants and businesses. The events will be taking place over 10 to 13 days from Canada’s opening game on June 12 to the championship game on July 19.
The activities are expected to be very lively and although this will be a celebratory time for Victoria’s downtown core, there may be added safety measures to consider when planning active transportation routes for students to/from school and planning activities for your families outside school hours.
Staff have also been reminded of these events and will be in touch if any adjustments need to be made for pre-planned field trips and other school-related activities.
