SCHOOL UPDATES:
Principal’s Message
The fall weather has come! It is getting colder and more wet, but we continue to spend time outdoors daily. Thank you to all those who attended our parent/teacher conferences last week. We had a good turn out. It was an important time to discuss individual students and learn a little more about classroom routines and practices. Please remember, teachers are available for questions via emails. If you need a bigger conversation, please plan to schedule a meeting time. All our teachers have very busy schedules and cannot always stop in the moment to chat. They would like to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have. They enjoy hearing about student successes as well.
We continue to practice safety in and around our school. Students should be using the appropriate crosswalks when traveling to and from school. They should not be crossing the parking lot without adult supervision. Parents, please do not park in the area designated for teachers and busses. The drop off zone should not have unattended cars in it. The front playground is currently closed due to the many, many acorns that have fallen, causing a stumbling hazard. Children are practicing safe hall walking and respectful listening when spoken with. The value placed on respect for others is an ongoing endeavor.
Please review safe Halloween behaviors with your children as we move closer to this fun day. Attached you will find a link to some helpful tips from the Canadian Red Cross. Halloween costumes may be worn to school on October 31. This is an option alongside the orange and black many choose to wear. Please remember students should be able to move freely, be independent for things like bathroom trips, and easily able to participate in all school activities, such as gym, classroom activities and recess times outside. The costumes will be safe, with no dragging pieces or tripping concerns. We ask for no masks, no props and nothing scary or with ‘blood’. We appreciate everyone will consider cultural sensitivity if choosing to wear a costume.
Friday, October 24 will be a teacher professional development day, with no students in session. Our teachers have wide ranging passions and are working on interesting new learning for themselves: outdoor education, math workshops, technology initiatives, careers, science planning, and much more.
Coat Swap
As the weather gets colder we are accepting donations of clean coats and jackets. Please bring them to the office or hang them directly on the clothing rack. If you need a coat or jacket, please help yourself from the rack. We all know how quickly children grow and this allows us to swap and exchange in the spirit of supporting one another during this time of growing inflation. We will be setting the rack up outside the main gym doors, and will have access for parents immediately before school in the morning.
